Passion and Profit – Don’t Settle for Anything Less

I discovered Steve Pavlina, an up and coming personal development guru, about a year ago.   He is currently not on the same level as a Tony Robbins, but he may be one day.  If you go to Google and type in personal development his website shows up on the first page.  There are literally millions of websites, but his is listed long before Tony Robbins or any other guru you may know.  Do you realize how difficult it is to achieve such high placement?

When he started his website a little over two years ago – he noticed that none of the gurus had leveraged their notoriety on the web.  Yes, they had book deals, seminars, etc, but none had claimed the Internet.  So, he set out and claimed the space.  Today he claims to have over 1.5 million visitors each month and is making 6 figures from his website alone.

He just updated his top 10 list of lessons learned as an entreprenuer.  I wanted to share two with you and the rest can be read at his site.

2. Buy the best chair you can find.  You’ll probably use your chair more than any other piece of business equipment, including your computer, so don’t settle for a crappy one.  Consider a chair with padded arms and a high back (to the top of your head) for maximum comfort.

I couldn’t agree with this more. The best money I have spent since starting my business was on a good chair.  One month after sitting in my old Staples’ special for 10 hours a day, I could barely walk. The sales person didn’t realize this, but I would have paid much more.

10. Do what you love, but be damned sure it’s profitable.  If you do work you love, but it doesn’t generate income, your business will fail.  If you do work you hate, but it generates income, your health will fail… and your business along with it.  If you can’t do what you love and make it profitable, you’ve either got a hobby or a headache, not a sustainable business.  Don’t settle for anything less than passion and profit.

Amen, brother….
