Why I Quit Entrepreneurship and Got a Real Job

Entrepreneurship is about constantly learning and adjusting.  Very few people hit the ball out of the park – the first time up to bat.  Sometimes you have to close the doors and get a real job.  I did just that in 1993 when my video production company failed.  Luckily my former employer hired me back.  I used the next several years to develop the skills that I found to be lacking.  I obtained an MBA from Babson College which focuses on entrepreneurialism and I moved out of engineering into marketing and sales.  Equipped with this new found knowledge and understanding, I said goodbye again to Corporate America.  Actually, it would take 12 years to say goodbye – the paychecks were nice.

Creating a Web-Based Business

Of the paths most traveled to attain financial freedom, I believe that small business ownership is the most difficult.  Thousands of small businesses are started each day, so why would I say that?  Remember that the goal is financial freedom is time – time to focus on what’s important to you and your family. It is not to create a job, so that people will call you boss.  Initially whichever path you decide to travel will require a fair amount of time, but the time requirement should diminish over time. Once a stock trading system is established, it may only require a few hours per day depending on your system.  What do you think would happen to a restaurant owner if he or she only spent a few hours a day there?

The web has enabled great financial freedom type businesses.  Ones that reduce the time consuming tasks such as managing employees, inventory and facilities.  Take a look at this article on creating a web-based business.
